Dr Med. Dent.

Michael Kratschmayr

In addition to general dentistry, Dr med. dent. Michael Kratschmayr’s specialisations include temporomandibular disorders. Many complaints, such as headaches, neck tension, teeth grinding, etc., are caused by the temporomandibular joint. In order to arrive at a diagnosis, various examinations and analyses are required, which Dr Kratschmayr has been practising for years. Including the functional analysis of temporomandibular joint disorders. Experience you can trust.

Another approach that Dr Kratschmayr has been pursuing for 25 years is holistic dentistry. Here the whole organism is considered and not just the teeth or the interaction between tooth and organism. Alternative healing methods (homeopathy) are used where conventional medicines and treatments have had no effect. Detailed information on Dr Kratschmayr’s qualifications can be found in the “Dentistry Plus” section.

Dr Kratschmayr is a member of the BDIZ (European Association of Dental Implantologists), DGI (German Association of Oral Implantology), IMGEAV (International Society for Electroacupuncture according to Dr Voll), IZAK (Interdisciplinary Dentistry Working Group), ZÄN (Umbrella Organisation of Physicians for Naturopathy) and DGZMK (German Association for Dental, Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine). INTERVIEW WITH DR KRATSCHMAYR

Dr Kratschmayr, in addition to the usual range of services offered by a dental practice, you also offer many alternative and holistic therapies. How did you arrive at this holistic approach?

The path to alternative, holistic methods has evolved from my personal experiences and practice in my first years as a dentist. Again and again there were cases that did not seem to be treatable. One example is patients with unexplained chronic complaints or inexplicable pain in the head area. These complaints often involve the teeth or a cranio-mandibular dysfunction (CMD). Over the years, I have found approaches that offer solutions for these patients.

Is the holistic approach the future of dentistry? Or is it only of interest to patients with certain problems, such as headaches, teeth grinding or sleep disorders?

The holistic approach with analysis of the jaw or osteopathic methods is only interesting for a small group of patients who have particular complaints. Therefore, it will always remain a sub-section of dentistry and will by no means replace established methods. Of course, it is a positive thing that chronic complaints are thankfully the exception, not the rule.

To be able to imagine your approach from the patient’s perspective: what differences from more traditional dentists do new patients notice when they come to your practice?

It’s a relaxed atmosphere – we play soft, soothing music in the background and emphasise a calm pace in the practice. This is also how we approach the treatment. It is applied in a sustainable manner. Meaning that after the diagnosis, I take time to consider the case. Sometimes it takes a while to think of the best solution for each case. I plan it out step by step to ensure the best possible result and long-lasting effectivity. Before any restoration, we take preparatory measures, such as caries removal and – if necessary – gum treatment. This lays the initial foundation for a successful restoration.
